The main fighter aircraft around the time the Aerospace Force was established, before it was reorganized into the Japan Aerospace Self-Defense Force.

High-level network coordination between early warning and control aircraft and the same aircraft. Links with the updated F-35, F15, and F-2 are also required.
It was jointly developed with the UK and Italy, with domestic heavy industry manufacturers participating.
